Getting Married at a Temecula Winery? How to Choose Your Dress

Temecula wine country is one of Southern California’s favorite places to say “I do.” Rolling vineyards, golden-hour light and barrel rooms make a beautiful backdrop. They also come with a few things to think about when you choose your dress. Here’s how to pick a gown that looks stunning and feels comfortable at a winery wedding, from a bridal shop just minutes from Temecula in Murrieta.
Choose a silhouette that moves with you
Winery weddings usually mean walking across lawns, between the vines and from the ceremony site to the reception. A-line and soft ball gown silhouettes in flowing tulle or chiffon move easily and photograph beautifully outdoors. If you love a fitted look, a fit-and-flare with a lighter skirt gives you shape without weighing you down.
Dreaming of a long train? You can absolutely have one. Just plan for a bustle so you can lift it after the ceremony and enjoy the rest of the night without dragging it through grass or gravel.
Dress for Temecula weather
Temecula summers are warm, and evenings can cool off quickly, especially in fall and winter. For daytime and summer weddings, look for breathable fabrics like chiffon, organza, tulle and light lace. For cooler evenings, satin and heavier lace feel elegant and cozy, and sleeves are both pretty and practical.
Think about the ground beneath you
Lawns, gravel paths, decomposed granite and barrel-room floors are all part of the winery experience. A few tips:
- Choose a hem length that clears the ground when you’re wearing your wedding shoes.
- Pick shoes you can actually walk in on grass. Block heels and wedges sink less than stilettos.
- Bring your shoes to your fittings so your hem is set at exactly the right length.
Every gown bought at Ann’s can be altered right here in our shop by Anna, our seamstress, so your hem, bustle and fit are just right for your venue.
Modest and sleeved options
Many winery ceremonies are paired with a church or temple ceremony, and some brides simply want more coverage. Our modest wedding dresses include sleeves, higher necklines and temple-ready styles, and we can customize many contemporary gowns with added coverage.
Give yourself time
We recommend starting your dress search about 8 to 9 months before your wedding date. Most wedding dresses are made when ordered, and you’ll want time for alterations once your gown arrives. Planning a winery wedding in peak season? Start a little earlier.
Our favorite local venues
There are wonderful places to get married all around the world, but right here in the breathtaking Inland Empire are some truly exceptional venues.
